Brett Sommermeyer co-founded Sea Shepherd Legal in 2014. Coupled with a longstanding commitment to the protection of marine wildlife and ecosystems, Brett has acquired fluency in the nuances of environmental law through professional and academic pursuits, and approaches national and international environmental problems with a solid understanding of climate and biological sciences, policy, economics, and law. He has devoted a significant portion of his legal career to the achievement of conservation goals through pro bono representation and service on the boards of environmental nonprofit organizations. Brett holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Duke University, a law degree from Lewis and Clark, Northwestern School of Law, with a Certificate in Natural Resources and Environmental Law, and a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University, School of International and Public Affairs. Brett has authored a multitude of materials pertinent to the practice of environmental law and policy, and is a member of the Guam, Oregon and Washington bars.
